The luxury car market has long been dominated by mid-size sedans, and some of the most talked-about vehicles in this niche are the Cadillac CTS and the Audi A6. However, Jaguar, another household name when it comes to luxury vehicles, hopes to share and ultimately corner the mid-sized sedan market with the upcoming 2016 Jaguar XF. The upcoming offering will feature three versions: the 35t, the XF S, and the turbodiesel engine variant.
In terms of new features, the most noted change for the new XF is its complete redesign. The upcoming sedan will switch from an all-steel body to that of structured aluminum, the same as with the brand's full-size sedan, the XJ, and the new XE. According to the automaker, this change in body mass will spell a tremendous weight loss – at least 256 pounds off for the all-wheel-drive version and 132 pounds for the rear-wheel-drive model – that will greatly help in a more streamlined driving experience.
In addition, the redesigned 2016 XF will also see a major increase in interior features, such as a much larger wheelbase and roomier legroom. The car's interior will also showcase Jaguar's own InTouch Pro touchscreen interface as its centerpiece. In the premium XF, there will be a large 10.3-inch screen partnered with another 12.3-inch screen interface. Meanwhile, the standard version will come with an 8-inch screen.
As for the engine, the 2016 XF that will be released this year will have a four-cylinder, turbodiesel setup that will give 178 hp and an estimated EPA mileage of more than 40 miles. For the U.S. launch this fall, buyers can also choose between a 340-hp or 380-hp power rating, both having a supercharged V6 engine.
When it arrives this fall, the 2016 Jaguar XF will retail for $51,000 for the 35t model and $62,700 for the S variant. Meanwhile, the 2.0 turbodiesel version will drop its price to below $50,000.
