2016 Chevrolet Camaro price, release date update: Car gets tech upgrades and a spike in price

The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro is putting up a significantly larger price tag compared to that of its predecessor. However, the price hike comes with a slew of massive improvements in every aspect of the latest iteration of Chevy's well-loved sports car brand.

The value of the new Camaro Six starts at $26,695, which is almost $2,000 more than the price of last year's model, which costs $24,700.This is justified by the boost in overall performance and technology, as well as fuel economy and refinement.

According to CNET, the new Camaro is made to look like a modern muscle car. Although having gained more power and upgrades, the new Chevy iteration is relatively lighter than the 2015 model by at least 200 pounds. Thanks to this trim, the vehicle looks sleek, sportier and definitely more handsome.

Chevrolet is dropping the 1LS/ 2LS trim levels from the new sports car, with the 1LT being the new standard model for the Camaro 2016. This base model is priced $305 less than the 2015 Camaro 1LT. This one comes with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and races with 275 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque.

The model comes with Chevy's own MyLink infotainment system, as well as Apple CarPlay and even 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot. It won't come out without having a drive-mode selector and a backup camera on board. There are also dual power seats, a USB port, Bluetooth phone/audio, and 12-month satellite radio to enjoy.

As per Tech Times, dealers will be putting the first batch of 2016 Chevrolet Camaro units on display by November, although it is important to note that the optional V-6 engine won't be out until early next year. Those who want their new Camaro with the said engine but aren't willing to wait for 2016 will have to shell out a much bigger amount.

Other 2016 Chevrolet Camaro trims include the 2LT, 1SS and 2SS models. The cost of the 1SS variant is $37,295 which is almost $3,000 more than the 2015 Camaro's 1SS version. The 2SS version should be around $45,000 although there's no official detail released on this.
