YFC overseas mission opens eyes

Do you believe only in what you see? What if you were given the chance to see things from a different angle, to see – in fact – things as they truly are? Youth for Christ is giving young people the opportunity to go abroad for a few weeks and get involved in mission in 2010, allowing them to see things differently and be changed by God as He uses them to take His Good News to people.

Sometimes it involves someone literally seeing things more clearly! A gift of a pair of reading glasses for someone in Brazil can radically change their life as it restores the freedom to read books, newspapers and worship God through songs. For some children in Rwanda a pair of glasses means the ability to see the blackboard and take part in lessons like everyone else. But in the UK, we sometimes don’t see the significance of such things until we travel to another country and experience it first hand.

This summer many young people have made the courageous decision to go abroad for a few weeks with YFC, in order to see the world from a different angle.

Teresa was part of a summer team that travelled to Antigua last year and after braving the heat that sweeps the country in July, she remarked: "The trip challenged me in my faith a lot….being involved in dance, drama, street pastoring and prison visiting has helped me to be more open with my faith and encouraged me to keep going.

"I saw God working in a different way to what I was used to."

YFC is recruiting for its summer teams to Uganda, Tanzania, Brazil and Moscow where the programmes will include sport, teaching English, renovating a children’s ward in a hospital, schoolswork and lots of other creative ways to reach out to children and young people.
