Xiaomi Mi 5 release date, specs rumors: Xiaomi officially confirms Mi 5 will arrive on Feb. 25

The much awaited device from Xiaomi will finally come out in the open, with word that the Xiaomi Mi 5 will finally make its long overdue debut on Feb. 25 in Beijing.

The Xiaomi Mi 5 was originally scheduled to come out last year. Plans for that eventually hit a snag with the Snapdragon 820 processor still not available. But now that the Snapdragon processor is out, Xiaomi is finally ready to lift the covers on the highly anticipated device.

Checking on the date, some are a bit miffed at why Xiaomi would time it at about the same time that the 2016 Mobile World Congress (MWC) is underway. The 2016 MWC will kick off on Feb. 22, a couple of days before Xiaomi officially reveals the Mi 5.

Then again, the device will be launching in China, with focus on Asia so such may not be much of an issue after all.

The Xiaomi Mi 5 will reportedly come out in four variants. Two will be all-metal and the other two sport-metallic ones which will have two pieces of glass at the back and front.

The glass + metal devices will feature 4 GB of RAM and 32 or 64 GB of internal storage, while the all-metallic models will offer 3 and 4 GB of RAM variants. As far as the display for this model is concerned, NDTV mentions that it will have a 2K QHD display.

Among the common features for the Mi 5 include a 16-megapixel main camera and a 3,600 mAh battery. It will run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with pre-installed Xiaomi MIUI 7 OS (aside from Google OS).

On the outside, the Xiaomi Mi 5 will reportedly have a physical home button up front. Other features have yet to come out in the open, but folks who are planning to get one need not wait long. With just a couple of weeks more to wait, the official features should be coming out from all directions soon.
