'Wayward Pines' season 2 canceled or renewed? creator 'working with the writers' for new season

Talks and rumors about "Wayward Pines" season 2 have been around from the moment the series aired its finale back in July. But despite the noise, a follow-up season to the series based on the books by Blake Crouch has not yet materialized.

The first season of the series ran for 10 very intense episodes. By the end of all those, everything the people of Wayward Pines worked hard for, along with what Ethan eventually died for to see a change in the inhumane system, was undone three years later when the new-generation took over. 

As per VC Post, even though the show felt transitory, the ratings were off the charts. But as already mentioned, the show was done only as a one-shot adaptation and was meant to run for just one season. 

But many recognize that there remain a lot of mysteries lurking in the small town that are waiting to be explored. And it seems that M. Night Shyamalan, who adapted Crouch's books for TV, agrees. During a chat with FOX 5 NY, he said that he knows that a throng of fans are asking for "Wayward Pines" season 2 and when the show was hailed the top scripted show of the summer, they knew it was coming.

For the first time in months, there might be good news. Shyamalan revealed that he has been talking with Crouch about a second season for "Wayward Pines."

He said, "I need to know the end. I'm working with the writers. If I can think of an end and work backwards then I'll do it."

Just like fans, Shyamalan needs to know that "there is an end point" in the story. Fans have long been suggesting that a prequel that will explain how the world was taken over by the flesh-eating aberrations, or abbies, will be great to see. Continuing Ben Burke's story will work, too. 

For now, "Wayward Pines" season 2 is not official yet.
