Robert Kirkman, the creator of "The Walking Dead," is planning on creating a spinoff of the hit zombie-apocalypse thriller that almost everyone loves. This offshoot, fortunately, does not require any prior knowledge about the ongoing AMC series but interestingly, at the same time, will have existing lovers of the show feel at home.
So those who belong to the handful who needed or wanted to take part in the action but was too late to do so, then this "startlingly different" spinoff will be the most convenient entertainment to turn to.
"So what we're trying to do with The Walking Dead spinoff is keep the story as familiar as possible for people that love The Walking Dead, so you'll get the kind of things that you expect from a Walking Dead story. But, at the same time, we'll want to tell these stories in a completely different way with completely different people in a completely different setting that's going to make for a fundamentally different show," Kirkman explained, as quoted by AV Club.
"It's a corner of the world that we have never explored in the comic book series," the creator went on to say. "So, theoretically, something like this could be happening in Los Angeles in the comic book series, but we don't show you this area of the country in the comic book series. So it fits within that world, but it is all new characters, all new events and all kinds of crazy stuff."
There are already hints on casting so the show is already in the pipeline. Cliff Curtis and Kim Dickens were picked for the upcoming show and will act as individuals with a very knotty past.
Curtis will be taking on the role of a father and a teacher named Sean Cabrera, a "good man trying to do right by everyone in his life," as described by TV Line. Kim Dickens, meanwhile, will be showing more thriller acting chops everyone first witnessed on "Gone Girl" but now as single mom Nancy Tompkins, a perfect example of the caveats brought by "don't judge the book by its cover." IB Times concluded that Kirkman's selection of the actors supports the ideals of the show, which is family.
