'Transformers 5' movie news: Mark Wahlberg to return, Michael Bay too?

Mark Wahlberg will be back. Facebook

Details about "Transformers 5" only come from the dedicated churning of rumor mills. Thankfully, new and solid information about the much-anticipated refresh of the franchise full of all-out explosions and giant mechanoids has the movie slowly becoming more of a concrete project and less of an inexistent mythical film.

And it looks like Mark Wahlberg's participation in the much-loved franchise did not end in "Transformers: Age of Extinction," where he played as mechanic and inventor Cade Yeager. In an interview with MTV, the 43-year old actor, who is purportedly known to shake his head no to movie sequels, confirmed his return to the world of robots. After reports of his departure from the franchise, which were pretty much convincing, the "Pain & Gain" actor will indeed be part of "Transformers 5."

"Yeah, I committed to doing a couple more," Wahlberg told MTV as an answer to inquiries about his plans concerning the massive machine movie.

On the other hand, Michael Bay, who helmed every "Transformers" film there is, was also previously speculated to leave the project to "flex new muscles" and direct a completely different film. However, Wahlberg has implied the director's possible homecoming.

"I can't speak for Mr. Bay, but something tells me we'll be on set soon," Wahlberg hinted.

"Transformers 5" is scheduled to hit theaters in 2016, but it seems that the list of the cast and crew who will make up the upcoming movie has yet to be set in stone. If 2016 really is the target, IB Times remarked that everyone should already get going. With tons of special effects and arduous CGI animation to work on, no time should be wasted.

While Paramount's strategy on dealing with that is mind-boggling at the moment, fans are all the more glad to know that actual steps are being taken for the movie to materialize. They have been relying to rumors and conjectures, both weighty and wild. Wahlberg's statements only uncovered a bit of the whole picture and viewers are sure to clamor for more, this time about details on the plot of the movie.
