Things are not looking good for Stefan (Paul Wesley) Caroline (Candice Accola-King) in the second half of the current season of the hit The CW series "The Vampire Diaries."

With the blonde vampire now pregnant with Alaric's (Matt Davis) twins, Stefan has no choice but to keep his distance for her safety, as well as the babies'. Eventually, he will have to let her go, and let her live her new life as a mother. When Stefan and Elena (Nina Dobrev) broke up, it was Caroline who helped him get back on his feet. They were friends before they became lovers; such is why this separation will be doubly painful for Stefan.

TV Line reports that everything will become a bit too much to handle for him, that he will want to leave Mystic Falls for a while. Stefan will find himself in New Orleans, where he can reflect in silence on all the drama with the Heretics. There is a bar in the city where no magic can penetrate and this is where Stefan will nurse his broken soul. As he is in the Mikaelsons' turf, Stefan will not be able to dodge a meeting with Klaus (Joseph Morgan).

The last time they met, he and Caroline were just starting to date. Fans on "The Vampire Diaries" know that Klaus once thought of Caroline as the love of his life, but things are obviously behind them now. The hybrid is currently in love with Cami (Leah Pipes). Unfortunately, the woman is now dead, leaving Klaus devastated and angry. Executive producer Julie Plec revealed that the two broken-hearted vampires would have a lot to talk about.

"Stefan's now with Caroline, and Klaus, of course, has just gone through everything he's gone through with Cami. They actually have a surprisingly civil and honest conversation about love — what it means and the sacrifices that you have to make in the name of it," she shared.

Meanwhile, Buddy TV reveals that Caroline and Alaric will become closer as they prepare for the twin's arrival. Will Alaric see her as Jo's (Jodi Lyn O'Keefe) replacement and ultimately be the reason for Caroline and Stefan's break up?

"The Vampire Diaries" season 7 will return on Friday, Jan. 29, at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
