As "The Originals" nears the premier of its fourth season, rumors are growing more insistent that a crossover from "The Vampire Diaries" will indeed happen and it will be the vampire Alaric (Matt Davis) who pays a visit to New Orleans.
According to a report by TV Line, Alaric will go to New Orleans to find Elijah (Daniel Gillies) and deliver a priceless artifact to the latter. The character will reportedly appear in season 4's episode 8 and speculations are strong that he will be joined by Caroline (Candace Accola).
Ever since rumors floated about a potential crossover between the two shows, fans have been rooting for a visit from Caroline because of her history with Klaus (Joseph Morgan). Shippers have long wanted a reunion between the two characters because of their strong chemistry and Klaus' promise to her that he wanted her to be his last love, ITechPost reported.
"The Originals" also killed off Klaus' love interest Cami last season, which leaves a lot of room to rekindle a relationship. Caroline was rumored to drop in to help Klaus escape from the effects of the Tunde Blade.
Should Alaric's crossover happen, he would be the fourth character from "The Vampire Diaries" to appear in the spin-off show. Tyler (Michael Trevino), Matt (Zach Roerig), and Stefan (Paul Wesley) already paid a visit to the original hybrid in seasons 1 and 3.
Meanwhile, "The Originals" has finally confirmed its airing date next year, which is slated for March 17, 2017.
The show will replace "The Vampire Diaries," which will air its series finale after eight seasons on the air on March 10, 2017. "The Originals" will then take its parent show's 8 p.m. timeslot for Friday.
When the show returns, it will feature a five year time jump and will feature Klaus' daughter Hope (Summer Fontana) as a child. It is expected that Hope's return will show viewers a different side to Klaus.
"The Originals" season 4 will return on Friday, March 17, 2017 at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
