'The Fosters' season 3: Problems continue to pile up for Stef, Lena

Their marital troubles are far from over for Stef (Teri Polo) and Lena (Sherri Saum) in the second half of the hit series "The Fosters" season 3.

During the midseason finale, viewers witnessed how their marriage was going downhill amidst all the jealousy and petty quarrels they were having. Stef and Lena decided to stay together, though, for Callie's (Maia Mitchell) sake. The family was in the middle of a petition to adopt her and they did not want to give the court a reason to deny the request. The judge eventually gave her approval and the finale ended with the Fosters welcoming Callie as the newest member of the family.

Now that this is behind them, the couple can finally focus on making their relationship work. Unfortunately, Lena appears to have decided that they are better off separated. In the promo for season 3B, Stef can be seen holding up a document while disbelievingly asking her wife what that is. Could it be divorce papers?

Meanwhile, the rest of the teaser shows the different Foster children facing their own set of problems. With Callie officially his adoptive sister, Brandon (David Lambert) still has not gotten over the fact that they had slept together. In the clip, he is clearly in denial about what happened to them. Brandon is also worried that Callie has told someone that they had sex. She is clearly rattled by his cold behavior, telling him she thought they are in the situation together. Brandon, however, says they are not.

Season 3B will also see what Jesus (Noah Centineo) is hiding from his parents. During the summer finale, the Fosters were surprised to see him home from the boarding school. It was clear he was in some sort of trouble, but Jesus told them he just wanted to celebrate Callie's adoption with the family. In the latter part, he revealed to his twin sister Mariana (Cierra Ramirez) that he was home for good and that he could not return to school. What kind of problem is Jesus facing?

"The Fosters" season 3 will return on Monday, Jan. 25, at 8 p.m. EST on Freeform (formerly ABC Family).
