Fans of "The Affair" should expect the third season of the drama series to revolve around Noah's journey and imprisonment.

It can be recalled that in the finale of season 2, Noah (Dominic West) admitted to killing Scotty (Colin Donnell) even though he was not guilty in order to protect his wife Helen (Maura Tierney) from prosecution.

However, having had to spend time in prison would have consequences for the character and the show will provide insight into his ordeal by showing flashbacks as the show picks up from his release from jail, reported NY Daily News.

Tierney shared, "This season is all about Noah. [The writers] made the choice to skip jail. He's been released. As the season progresses, there are more and more flashbacks. His journey in prison gets revealed towards the end of the season."

Noah is not the only one traumatized by his experience. Helen also has troubles of her own personal since she is turned away by Noah while he was still in prison.

"She's drowning in guilt and desperation, but she's got this really calm veneer over the top of it. It's tough to bring a character back from that bad choice. Who could live with that? That's been the struggle," the actress explained of her character.

Throughout the course of the season, the show is also expected to explore a new romantic angle for Noah's character, a woman named Juliette Le Gall (Irene Jacob), Variety reported. According to the character description, Juliette is "someone who is running from her own secrets and who helps Noah process a trauma from his past and understand himself a little better."

When the show opens with the episode entitled "The Affair", Noah will have to wrestle with the challenge of returning to his old life while coming to terms with his new status.

"A new love interest isn't enough to overcome a sense of dread. And someone is watching him," the synopsis read.

"The Affair" returns to Showtime for its third season at 10 p.m. EST on Sunday, Nov. 20.
