'Project Treasure' for Wii U: new free-to-play game announced

Upcoming "Project Treasure" by Bandai Namco Games and Nintendo [dengekionline.com]

A new co-op action game is being developed exclusively by Nintendo and Bandai Namco for the Wii U console.

During the Nintendo Direct presentation held on Wednesday, "Tekken" director Katsuhiro Harada mentioned that they are currently working on a new project that is being temporarily dubbed as "Project Treasure." Harada stated a brief description of the developing project.

"It's an action game where four players work together to complete various stages," the game director said.

He also added that "Project Treasure," a free-to-play game, will feature different traps, a number of vicious enemies, as well as several game-related treasures. However, the game director refused to shed light about the other details pertaining to the upcoming video game release, including its actual release date as well as its official name. All he divulged is the information saying that the game is "coming soon."

Harada's announcement was supported by a short clip showcasing the first look of the alleged game characters. These images show the first close-up glimpse of the characters' faces, and a quick montage of their upper bodies.

It is expected that Bandai Namco Entertainment will release an official statement about the status of the project in the coming days.

Although there are limited details released about the upcoming "Project Treasure" game, some reports are speculating that it will have nothing to do with "Tekken," and it is not in anyway related to the popular combat game. It would more likely be a dungeon crawler based on Harada's statement. It is also unclear whether the game will feature more than the four characters that were earlier reported.

"Project Treasure" can be played by all Nintendo Network users whose Wii U console is connected to the Internet.

Will Nintendo and Bandai Namco's tentatively titled "Project Treasure" be as successful as "Tekken" once released?
