After months of speculations, Microsoft finally unveiled the new Surface 3 that vows to challenge all the leading tablet computers in the market today.
The announcement from the Redmond-based computer manufacturing giant was held on Tuesday, after Microsoft announced that the thinnest and lightest version of the company's tablet line is meant to attract budget conscious could have a more affordable option compared to its Surface Pro line.
But can the device stand against the Cupertino-manufactured Macbook Air?
Here is a detailed comparison between the two products:

Macbook Air
The lightest and thinnest laptop computer from Apple Inc. is only 0.68-inch thin and weighs 2.96 lbs. It comes with a 13-inch display with a 1440 x 900 resolution with 128 GB and 256 GB internal storage capacity with 4GB of 1600MHz LPDDR3 onboard memory. It also has a 1.6GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 (Turbo Boost up to 2.7GHz) with 3MB shared L3 cache.

Surface 3
The latest tablet computer from Microsoft comes with a 10.8-inch display and an Intel Atom x7 processor that runs at 1.6 GHz and provides a Turbo Boost speed of up to 2.4 GHz. It also comes with a front-facing 3.5 megapixel and rear-facing 8 megapixel cameras that both has the capacity to capture 1080p videos. It is reportedly running with the Windows 8.1 operating system but it can be upgraded to the Windows 10 once it arrives soon.
Though the Surface 3 is technically a tablet, it can also function very well as a laptop just like the Macbook Air because of the detachable Type Cover which can also work as the keypad for the device. It also have a Docking Station that could instantly transform the device into a full desktop workstation because it can easily be attached to an HD monitor, external mouse and keyboard, as well as a printer.
The Surface 3 promises to give the Macbook Air a run for its money, especially since the device can be purchased for only $499, while the most affordable MacBook Air is sold for $899 and up.
