"Supernatural" season 11 will pit the Winchester brothers against their biggest and baddest enemy yet. The Darkness will be so difficult to defeat that Sam and Dean will be forced to team up with people from their past in order to increase their chances of beating the big bad foe.

In an interview with TV Line, executive producer Jeremy Carver revealed that the brothers will be compelled to get help from the unlikeliest bunch of people as they attempt to take down the Darkness, which is definitely no easy feat.

"They're going to have to make some unexpected and unholy alliances involving folks from their past, which will have personal ramifications, as well — because these are some pretty significant figures from their past," Carver said.

The identities of these returning characters add to the mysteries that surround the upcoming season. It is believed that "Supernatural" season 11 will see some enemies Sam and Dean conquered in the past join the side of the ones that took them down.

The "Supernatural" season 11 trailer shows Sam asking God for help as his face is literally being torn apart.

The Darkness will take the form of a seductive and sinister alien named Amara. Carver does not want to spoil the surprise of how the Darkness, which was only depicted as black smoke in the season 10 finale, will mold into the extraterrestrial but the EP said that there's so much more to learn about this big bad.

"One of the cool things about this season is how much mystery and ... 'unknowingness' there is to what exactly is going on. There's a lot of mystery to not only to what or who The Darkness is, but what The Darkness wants," he explained.

Carver said that this aspect will not be revealed in one fell swoop, emphasizing that it will "[take] time building and playing with [it]." What this means for Dean and Sam are bound to have more outbursts.

"They desperately want to punch something; they're just not sure what to punch," he said.

"Supernatural" season 11 premieres Oct. 7.
