Stressed? Anxious? 10 Bible verses to remind you God's in control

I'm a bit of an expert at being stressed. It's not something I have to work very hard at, it just comes naturally. If you're a worrier (or a forward planner as I like to think) it can be easy to feel like you're failing as a Christian, because we all know that we're not meant to worry about tomorrow "for tomorrow will worry about itself" (Matthew 6:34).

But instead of beating yourself up further, here are some verses to remind you that God cares, He's trustworthy and that He sees the bigger picture:

1. 2 Samuel 22:31-33:

As for God, his way is perfect:
The Lord's word is flawless;
he shields all who take refuge in him.
For who is God besides the Lord?
And who is the Rock except our God?

It is God who arms me with strength
and keeps my way secure

2. Psalm 9:10:

Those who know your name trust in you,
for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you

3. Psalm 27:1:

The Lord is my light and my salvation—
whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life—
of whom shall I be afraid?

4. Psalm 91:1-2:

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

I will say of the Lord, "He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.

5. Psalm 94:18-19:

When I said, "My foot is slipping,"
your unfailing love, Lord, supported me.
When anxiety was great within me,
your consolation brought me joy.

6. Proverbs 3:5-6:

Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight

7. John 14:27:

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

8. Romans 8:35-39:

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? [...] No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

9. Philippians 4:6-7:

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

10. 1 Peter 5:7:

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
