After the unqualified success that met the first season of Netflix's sci-fi hit Stranger Things, show creators Matt and Ross Duffer have disclosed that they have a plan on where to take the show if it is renewed for a second season.

In an interview with Variety, the brothers said that there are plenty of things about the Upside Down that they haven't explored yet because they wanted to focus on the main mystery of finding Will. They said that they actually have a 30 page document about the Upside Down that could flesh out the backstory of the parallel world.

"We leave these dangling threads at the end. If people respond to this show and we get to continue this story — we had those initial discussions of where we might go with it. If there was going to be a season two, we would reveal more of that 30 page document, but we'd still want to keep it from the point of view of our original characters," he said.

The document would delve into the origins of the Upside Down and the monster that resides within it. The brothers also explained the potential direction of Hopper's storyline after it was revealed in the finale that he was leaving eggos in the woods.

Another potential storyline could be how the Upside Down has impacted Will mentally and physically. It can be recalled that the finale showed Will throwing up a slug in the bathroom which he kept secret from his family.

A question on the fans' mind, however is when Netflix will make an official announcement on the renewal of the series.

Some speculate that Netflix is waiting for the Duffer brothers to confirm that all the child actors will be on board a fresh season before it makes an announcement. A report by Game N Guide indicated that Finn Wolfhard, who plays the character of Mike Wheeler, was cast in the reboot of Stephen King's IT, so scheduling conflicts may arise.

According to a post by TV Guide, the holdup may be because Netflix wants to give time to the Duffer brothers time to work on the second season on their own pace to ensure the same level of quality output as the first season.

It was also speculated that negotiations may be under way between the streaming giant and the young filmmakers as the second season may involve more money following the positive response on the pilot season.
