'Star Wars: Battlefront' game owners to get free 'Battle of Jakku' DLC

A free DLC will launch after the new "Star Wars: Battlefront" game is released, and the expansion is set to bridge the game and the film, "Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens."

The expansion called "Battle of Jakku" is set on the desert planet that is also one of the locations for the upcoming movie. It also takes place a year after the Battle of Endor in the sixth installment of the Star Wars series, bridging the gap between what happened in the "Return of the Jedi" and the upcoming events in "The Force Awakens."

Speaking to IGN about the DLC tying the game and the movie together, "Battlefront" producer Craig Mcleod said that this is to ensure continuity between the titles.

Said Mcleod, "This really ties in what we're doing with the Original Trilogy era with The Force Awakens."

He then added, "The Battle of Jakku takes place a year after the Battle of Endor, and the only way you can experience or see it is in our game. That battle essentially leads to that battle-scarred landscape you see in the trailers. What's even better is we're delivering it for free to every player who owns the game."

Intended as the very first expansion when "Star Wars: Battlefront" launches in November, the "Battle of Jakku" DLC will be free for all players and will be launched on Dec. 8, 10 days before the screening of "The Force Awakens" film. Moreover, those who pre-order copies of the "Battlefront" title will receive the free DLC content a week earlier, on Dec. 1.

"Star Wars: Battlefront" will be released on Nov. 17 in North America and Nov. 20 in the U.K. The title will be launched for PC, Playstation 4, and Xbox One, with the Xbox One console owners getting an early sneak peek at the game via EA Access.
