This partnership matches Sony's leadership in smart, wearable products with Google's software and platform expertise to create a unique wearable experience founded on both hardware and software innovation," the announcement from the Japanese consumer electronics company said.

The SmartWatch 3 is the first smartwatch that is particularly designed to feature the newest Android Wear updates. It also runs using a 1.2 GHz quad-core ARM A7 System on Chip featuring a 512 MB RAM and 4 GB eMMC memory. It means that the wearable device can be synced with the user's smartphone so that they can play music even without their mobile phone.

The new Sony wearable device also has an IP68 water-proof certification, a built-in microphone, a GPS sensor technology, compass, as well as an accelerometer. It also supports Bluetooth 4.0 LE and NFC, as well as a MicroUSB charging port.

Externally, the Sony SmartWatch 3 features a 1.6-inch 320 x 320 TFT LCD Transflective display that can help provide better visibility in bright sunlight. It is also set within a chic, stainless steel back panel.

The wearable device was earlier revealed during the IFA 2014 event in Berlin, and it was launched in North American and European markets as early as November last year.

The Sony SmartWatch 3 wearable device will be sold for Rs 19,990 in Sony Centre stores and other major retailers across India. The device was launched alongside another wearable device from the Japanese electronics giant, the SonyBand Talk, which features a short call function that could help users to talk and hear callers using its HD Voice support.
