Son of 'godfather of gospel' to lead church

|PIC1|The son of the late Rev Timothy Wright was installed as pastor of his father’s church on Sunday, three months after the death of the Grammy-nominated gospel music singer known to some as the "godfather of gospel".

David Wright, 30, was chosen to become the leader of Grace Tabernacle Christian Center in Brooklyn's Crown Heights, which his late father and mother started nearly two decades ago, according to a family spokesperson.

His father died on April 24 after having been critically injured last July when a drunk driver hit his car head-on as the 61-year-old Wright and his family were returning from a Church of God in Christ conference in Detroit on July 4,2008.

The older Wright, who was paralyzed from the chest down, had been in rehab since the three-vehicle crash, which killed his wife and teenaged grandson.

Aside from being the founder of Grace Tabernacle Christian Center, Wright recorded 12 albums and composed many of the songs on them.

In the 1990s, Wright was twice nominated for a Grammy for best traditional soul gospel album.

Wright's last album, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, came out in 2007.

David Wright is one of his five sons.
