'Skylanders Super Chargers' characters: Donkey Kong, Bowser to be featured in starter pack for Wii U, Nintendo 3DS pre-orders

One of the most successful toys-to-life franchises is the "Skylanders" series, and the upcoming fifth installment promises to deliver more of the same excitement and machine-mayhem action. To celebrate the upcoming release, Nintendo and developer Vicarious Visions will launch an exclusive "Super Chargers" starter pack featuring Donkey Kong and Hammer Slam Bowser. The two figures will be exclusively available for pre-orders on the Wii U, Wii, and Nintendo 3DS systems.

According to Bobby Kotick, chief executive officer of Activision Blizzard, one of the developers of the series, the inclusion of two exclusive Nintendo characters into the upcoming title is a celebration of their partnership.

"Activision Blizzard has always cherished our collaboration with Nintendo, and we are grateful for decades of partnership. Since we made the first toys-to-life game, some of our most dedicated players have been Nintendo fans around the world," he said to Business Wire. "'Skylanders' is delighted to welcome beloved guest stars Donkey Kong and Bowser into its magical world."

The new "Super Chargers" title will feature 12 new characters and their partner vehicles. If the characters are used together with their specific vehicle companion, the vehicle will get supercharged, adding power and speed. Eight characters have been re-imagined, complete with new looks, powers, and upgrades. And instead of sticking to a comprised set of vehicles much like the previous "Skylanders" titles, "Super Chargers" places gamers into the fight to stop Kaos, the boss that is looking to destroy the Skylands using his Doomstation of Ultimate Doomstruction.

According to the announcement Nintendo made during the recently-concluded Electronic Entertainment Expo trade show, "Skylanders Super Chargers" will be available on Sept. 20 across current-gen platforms PS4, Xbox One, and Wii U. In addition, the title will also be released for the older-gen Wii, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3, as well as the Nintendo 3DS system.
