'Sherlock' season 4 spoilers: show's new villain revealed

Should fans expect the return of Moriarty in 'Sherlock' season 4? BBC

The long wait is finally over for die-hard fans of the BBC series "Sherlock." The new season was announced a while back, and their crew just recently started the production for season 4 in Cardiff. Gospel Herald mentions that after Cardiff, Wales, they will move production to Morocco.

Fans are currently speculating on who the next villain might be. According to Christian Daily, there have been heavy hints that this new enemy might be connected to Moriarty (Andrew Scott), who is apparently speculated to not be dead after all. At some point during the previous season, Benedict Cumberbatch's character, Sherlock, was solving a case that was set in the Victorian Era, but it involved Victorian versions of the other characters, along with Moriarty.

Also, since Sherlock mentioned in the previous season, "It's never twins, Watson!" fans are now speculating that season 4 may just very well involve twins. Other speculations suggest that one of the twins might be Moriarty, and that Sherlock has been meeting different Moriartys without realizing it. International Business Times reports that other speculations include the reappearance of Irene Adler from season 1, this time as the titular character's love interest.

According to The Reporter Times, Toby Jones, who was recently reported to be playing a role in the new season, was reported to be playing Culverton Smith, who played the villain in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's "The Adventure of the Dying Detective." This character will be planning to spread a dangerous infection. Sherlock somehow avoids being infected, claiming to be too sick for investigating. However, Steven Moffat is known for adding modern twists to the main storyline, so the story might play out a little differently this time.

There is still no news on when the official release might be, but Sherlock will most probably be out by mid-2017. There might also be another Christmas Special, depending on the producer's schedule.
