Shark bit off left arm of 'Soul Surfer' Bethany Hamilton but not her positivity

"Soul Surfer" Bethany Hamilton has always been a positive person. Even after a shark bit off her left arm, which made it extremely difficult for her to pursue her life's passion, which is surfing, she refused to indulge in self-pity and simply sought ways to get back on her surfboard.

Now, looking back, Hamilton realised that it was also because of her family's unwavering support that she was able to remain focused on positivity.

On her Instagram account (@bethanyhamilton), the surfer mom shared a photo of her new family consisting of husband Adam Dirks and infant Tobias, and she wrote, "My family is such a blessing and has a huge impact on my path!!! My parents and my brothers have always been there for me every step of the way, and I wouldn't have gotten to where I am now without them. My family has now grown and changed (since) marrying Adam and having our little Tobias! I know that no matter what happens, my family will always be there to love and support me in whatever I do."

Motherhood has changed Hamilton in a lot of ways. Not only did her pregnancy and childbirth change her physical appearance, but it also changed how she enjoys surfing nowadays.

Before giving birth to Tobias, Hamilton can surf for hours on end without a care in the world. But now it feels quite different for her. Sure, Hamilton still enjoys riding the waves, and there is no other sport she would rather be pursuing. But at the back of her mind, she would always be thinking about her baby boy and what he's up to, and she would be rushing back home just to see him and spend time with him again.

"Time together cannot be replaced. I don't want to miss a moment with you," she said about her baby.
