'Scream' MTV TV series gets a new trailer

Scream comes to TV MTV

The first trailer for MTV's upcoming TV series "Scream" was revealed during the 2015 MTV Awards and it showcased how the concept of the films could translate when done in a series. As with the 1996 Wes Craven original, the series will play on the traditional "rules" of a slasher film with the plot and characters poking at the genre's cliches and usual tropes.

The trailer shows some of the early kills that may be in the first two or three episodes as well as a look at the series' masked villain. According to "Scream" creator Wes Craven via Twiter, the series will feature a slightly re-designed mask that is very reminiscent of the one used in the films.

Most of the pilot episode will revolve around the aftermath of a YouTube video gone viral, a cyber-bullying incident that leads to a murder and opens up a look into the town's troubled past. According to IGN, the incident may have inspired a copycat killer now on the loose and targeting the teenagers involved in the YouTube video.

The 1-minute promotional trailer also gives fans a good look at Willa Fitzgerald's character Emma Duvall and the friends she interacts with, particularly Aubrey Jenson played by Bex Taylor-Klaus.

The rest of the cast include Connor Weil, John Karna, Jason Wiles and Bobby Campo. Bella Thorne from Disney will also be in the series as a guest star and is confirmed to deliver the "What's your favorite scary movie" scene popularized in the first film.

"Scream" is a collaboration between MTV and Dimension TV with Jill Blotevogel serving as executive-producer. Jaime Paglia ("Arrow") will also serve as showrunner along with Craven, Liz Gateley, Tony DiSanto, Marianne Maddalena and Cathy Konrad. John Shiban will be serving as the series' consultant producer.

"Scream" is scheduled to air its pilot episode on June 30.
