Will "Scandal" fans finally get what they have always wanted when season 4 returns?

Based on recent spoilers, followers of the Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) and President Fitz (Tony Goldwyn) love story might be treated to something pleasing this season, since there have been speculations that their affair will finally have a happy ending. Reports say that Fitz will be leaving the First Lady Mellie Grant (Bellamy Young) to be with his lover and true love.

Although this would be a good angle to look forward to, other fans believe that the couple will not have a happily ever after just yet. Fitz, as the president of the United States, still has a lot to fix under his belt, including his son's murder, an assassination plot, as well as the effects of the rigged election.

More importantly, the couple's relationship is meddled with by Olivia's other love, Jake (Scott Foley). Would Jake give way for Fitz so that the president and Olivia can have a happy ending?

According to the actor who plays Jake, there is a possibility that his character will have a new love interest in the remaining episodes of "Scandal" season 4.

When asked if Jake should start moving on from his relationship with Olivia, Foley said, "I think there is still more to be explored in regards to Jake & Liv. But I'm open to whatever they'd like."

He also told his Reddit followers that he will accept whatever the writers of the show ask him to do. Still, fans are also concerned about Jake's ability to save Olivia from whoever captured her during the midseason finale.

Foley said, "On one hand it's a good feeling because people are understanding the character & his relationship with Olivia better. But on the other hand, I know that Shonda has a way of lifting characters up and then dropping them down. I'm terrified of the repercussions."

The remaining episode of "Scandal" season 4 returns on Thursday, Jan. 29.
