San Antonio Spurs trade rumors 2016: Spurs may need new guards soon

After hauling in the biggest fish from National Basketball Association (NBA) free agency, the San Antonio Spurs are likely to address their backcourt soon.

Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili are still in the lineup, although their playing years may be coming to a close soon.

Ginobili will be turning 39 this year, over the usual age when NBA players call it a day.

Despite all that, Ginobili continues to amaze. Although he has been understandably slowed down by injuries, the fact remains that he can still play but maybe to a certain degree.

Parker is younger at 34 but for those who have been following his games, many have probably noticed he has been hindered by injuries ever so often.

With that said, there is no telling up to when Parker will suit up, although the best thing to preserve him could be coming off the bench.

Changes could be forthcoming but of the point guard and off guard positions, the former seems to be the one which Popovich will address.

Patty Mill is there and has done a decent job, but assuming Parker is out or eventually retires, Popovich may be forced to look for a good point guard to fill up the slot.

That candidate could be a veteran or someone he sees the Spurs can develop. Such brings into mind Brandon Jennings or even Ty Lawson, although nothing has linked both players to the Spurs for now.

Danny Green just needs consistency and the Spurs will be fine. But the Spurs will need more off guards as well soon if Ginobili eventually hangs it all up soon.

While many are focusing on their frontline needs, the Spurs seem to be a step ahead of everybody. There is an abundance of guards in free agency, so a familiar name could suddenly come on board without anyone even noticing it.
