Samsung Galaxy S7 release date: Samsung testing units with Snapdragon 820 chipset?

Samsung just recently released the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, a much bigger variant of its current Edge flagship. But there are already rumors going around about the Galaxy S7, which is reported to be already in Samsung's testbeds this early.

The South Korea-based tech firm is said to be moving the production process of its next flagships forward. The Galaxy S7, in particular, is reportedly aimed to pass its development stage by year-end.

Word on the street is that the company is testing some Samsung Galaxy S7 units with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor on board. Users will remember that for the Galaxy S6 units, Samsung ditched the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 due to its overheating issues.

Samsung has reportedly been very strict on which processors to put under its flagship's hood in the name of quality, and that in order for one to go in, the certain chipset has to undergo and pass a rigorous testing. It looks like the new breed of Qualcomm chipsets passed Samsung's strict assessment. That said, if reports prove accurate, variants of the Samsung Galaxy S7 will be driven by an 820 processor.

It remains to be seen what swayed Samsung to enlist Qualcomm for its next smartphone's processing power, if this is indeed the case. Exynos chipsets made by the Galaxy maker itself are already deemed powerful, with benchmark tests ranking the Galaxy S6 number one in overall performance, which it owes to the Exynos 7420.

It is still unclear what chipset Samsung will go for but it wouldn't take long for users to know, as the Samsung Galaxy S7 will reportedly be launched earlier than usual. Reports claim Samsung will lift the veil off the device in January next year and it will be rolled out as early as February.
