Samsung Galaxy S6 to receive Android 6.0 Marshmallow update

Android 6.0 Marshmallow Android Developers Blog

Android 6.0 Marshmallow is already out and the waiting game starts for mobile phone companies and U.S. carriers as far as the official release of the latest operating system (OS) is concerned.

Samsung is, of course, in close watch, a leading brand that may more or less set the tone on which of its devices will be getting the latest OS.

It is believed that the first device likely to get the Android 6.0 Marshmallow will be the Samsung Galaxy S6. From the looks of it, it will be a top-down approach for the Korean company, meaning the latest device will get first crack at getting Android 6.0.

For now there is no official word on when that will actually materialize, although many believe that it will most likely happen before the year ends. If not, the latest could be early 2016, which isn't that far off.

In the meantime, it looks like some Samsung owners will have to make do with the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, which is being pushed out as of late. For those who haven't checked, it would be wise to see if that version is available.

Apparently Android 5.1.1 is an important update as well since it was reportedly intended to address the Stagefright bug which allows hackers to remotely access Android-run devices. For those who are unaware of the bug, a hacker needs to send an MMS and viola, he is in your device. Other than an MMS, the bug also passes through media files such as MP3 or MP4.

Going back to the Android 6.0 M, other devices likely to follow the Samsung Galaxy S6 include the Samsung Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy S6 Edge, and Edge Plus.

More devices that are running on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop are likely to follow but probably by 2016 already. Aside from Samsung, a list of Android devices that will be getting Android 6.0 can be found here. Check to see if your mobile phones is on the list.
