Samsung has just unveiled its newest addition to the company's flagship devices, the new Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 edge+. As the new Note is considered a phablet and more of a business partner than an everyday consumer handset, many fans have focused on the newest addition to the Galaxy S6 line-up. As with any current tech device, observers have also begun to pit the recent addition against the current flagships of competitors.

How would the newly-released Galaxy S6 edge+ go against other current flagships such as LG's G4 smartphone and Apple's iPhone 6?

Design

Samsung decided to retain the premium build and form factor for its new release. Seemingly similar to its predecessors, the new S6 Edge Plus still has its "curved display" build that is a signature of the S6 Edge product. Meanwhile, both the LG G4 and iPhone 6 look very much like the previous versions in their product lineups, except for the G4 having a variant for its back covers, and the iPhone 6 looking more "solid" than the iPhone 5s and 5c versions.

Processor and display

The Galaxy S6 edge+ runs on the same octa-core Exynos processor as the original S6 lineups. However, Samsung decided to add to the processing speed, partnering the 64-bit Exynos chipset with 4 GB of RAM. This makes the S6 Edge Plus run smoothly and multi-task with apps without sacrificing performance and speed. In contrast, the iPhone 6 runs on its homegrown A8 chipset with 1 GB RAM, while the LG G4 is powered by a Snapdragon 808 processor with 3 GB of RAM.

The Galaxy S6 edge+ also looks beautiful due to the vibrant colors and brightness of its 5.7-inch display, which is able to provide 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution at 518 ppi. However, the display is overshadowed by the LG G4's 5.5-inch screen. Although both handsets provide the same resolution, the G4's slightly smaller screen provides more pixels at 534 ppi. The iPhone 6, meanwhile, has the same 5.5-inch display as the G4 but only provides 401 ppi at 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution.
