Samsung Galaxy Note 5 release date rumors: Launch earlier than expected?

In what could only be good news for Note fans, the upcoming Galaxy Note 5 may come out this year. In addition, it seems that Samsung is gearing up for a potential new flagship unveiling on a much earlier date than expected.

Observers say that Samsung has already established a habit of releasing its new lineup of flagship products either at the start of the year or before it ends. Therefore, many have already expected that the upcoming flagship would be unveiled in September at the earliest. Some reports even stated that Samsung will be launching the new Note 5 during this year's IFA event, to be held in Berlin.

However, recent reports have surfaced that Samsung could be moving up its scheduled release for the Galaxy Note 5. Citing sources familiar with the matter, The Wall Street Journal reported that the Korea-based company is looking to launch the new Note 5 within a few weeks up to mid-August.

Aside from making sure that the new flagship will make it to the market before the holidays, the report also suggests that Samsung is bumping up its scheduled release to establish its market base much earlier than one of its fiercest competitors, Apple. The Cupertino-based company is reportedly launching its new flagships, including a new iPhone and iPad, by September.

In addition to the WSJ report, some observers note that the recent move by some U.S.-based mobile carriers such as AT&T may give a hint that a new Note is coming soon. According to IBTimes, AT&T is currently reducing its price plans for the current Galaxy Notes by as much as $200. While buyers still have to avail of the two-year lock in period with the carrier, the Galaxy Note 4's price is slashed at $199.99 while the Note Edge is available for $99.99 with contract.
