During game bigwig Capcom's presentation at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo, conspicuously absent was information about one of its well-known survival horror series, "Resident Evil." Of particular interest to some hardcore fans is the next installment in the franchise, "Resident Evil 7," and fans keep on trading guesses and speculations about the upcoming title.

The most recent of the rumors places the release of the next survival horror title in the latter part of the year, presumably in October. According to game observer site VCPost, the title will be launched alongside another much-awaited triple-A game, "Halo 5: Guardians" from developer 343 Industries.

Although the release date for "Resident Evil 7" has yet to be confirmed, recent actions by Capcom seem to support the speculations about the title's upcoming release. Early this month, it was reported that Capcom has applied for, and was granted, registration for a trademark at the Office of Harmonization in the International Market. The trademark that Capcom registered was "Umbrella Corp."

Those who are fans of the series know that in the "Resident Evil" universe, Umbrella Corporation is a giant conglomerate central to the story – the company was the one who initiated the creation, and eventually the release, of the dreaded T-virus.

No details about how the story will progress from the previous sixth installment, although fans say that one of their much-loved characters, Alice, is expected to make a comeback.

Meanwhile, it is also rumored that another "Resident Evil" title is in the works, that of a prologue title in "Resident Evil 0 HD Remaster." This game, which will include events prior to the first "Resident Evil title," will be released next year and will feature STARS officer Rebecca Chambers who will work with a death row convict to investigate what some in the game call as a "zombie outbreak."
