Resident Evil 7 VR release date news: VR testing to ensure it's not too scary

 Capcom

Expect Resident Evil to carry its Japanese name when it comes out in the UK and US next year, Resident Evil 7 producer Masachika Kawata said.

Capcom, the studio behind the game explained that they wanted to merge the two names that the franchise uses. The game is known as Biohazard in Japan while in the US and UK, it grew popular as Resident Evil, reported Express UK

For the seventh installment, the game will be introduced as Resident Evil 7: Biohazard in the West while in Japan, the studio will also include its Western name and be known as Biohazard 7: Resident Evil.

"We really want to have the big, impactful feeling of the series being in one place right now, and having one future it's heading towards. To do that, we brought the two titles together into one with Resident Evil 7 Biohazard. It's the opposite in Japan, it's Biohazard 7 Resident Evil," Kawata said.

He also explained that the demo released for the new installment is not lifted from the game but rather a tonal preview of what's to come.

"In the 20 year history of Resident Evil, you know that the key pillars of the game are fear and horror, exploration of the environment, puzzle-solving elements, resource management, and combat against enemies. Those are all in this game, but we wanted to start off with the first two – horror and exploration – and get you experiencing those two pillars up front," he said.

Speaking of horror, Capcom has also explained its move to put the PS4 and Xbox VR testing before it is released, another report stated.

The studio said that the game was originally not designed for VR and may become too scary for gamers who would play it using the new tech so they wanted to make sure that it will not put players at risk.

"When creating the game, the entire development team approached it as a normal non-VR game, and put in plenty of frightening jump moments. Having said that, obviously from a testing standpoint, we are making sure we are not putting people in danger for real," Capcom's Antione Molant said.

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is set for release on January 24, 2017.
