'Red Faction' news: Game could have PS4 version, according to rumors

It seems that the newest PS2 game to be ported for the PS4 is "Red Faction." After all, there have been a lot of PS2 games making the leap to the newer generation of the console in order to stay relevant to the current generation of players.

According to Game Rant, the new reports about the game's remaster or port to the PS4 is due to the new rating from the European Ratings group PEGI (Pan European Game Information). The organization gave the game a PEGI 16 rating because of the inherent violence of the game, which means that "Red Faction" is recommended only for people aged 16 and above.

What is more is that the ESRB — the organization's American counterpart — has yet to follow through, but the current rating alone is enough for people to believe in its possible re-release.

Meanwhile, the THQ Nordic group has yet to give any details about it, so it is yet to be clarified as to whether the game will simply be ported or a remaster will be released. It is a pretty good time for the game to be re-released, since the original "Red Faction" is now celebrating its 15th year anniversary.

According to Game Spot, the game was just recently been cleared by Germany as the game was once part of the list of media that were considered to be harmful to the youth. However, Nordic has yet to do anything with its rights after acquiring it back in 2013 after THQ's infamous bankruptcy.

Regardless, THQ Nordic is still quite interested in making new content or even new games in the "Red Faction" series. As fans can remember, the last addition to the game — "Red Faction: Armageddon" — was a flop. As such, it is possible that instead of porting the original game, the developers will instead make a new one.
