Contestants will be creating their own high fashion pieces in the upcoming episode of Lifetime's reality series "Project Runway" season 14, but there is a twist. They cannot use expensive materials, but recycled electronics from a nearby dumpster.
In "Haute Tech Couture," TV Guide reports that the designers will have to use all the creative juices they have to pull off a masterpiece created entirely from cast-off materials. These "trashes" will then be used to make a trendy, custom-designed ensemble fit to walk the runway.
This season's second unconventional materials challenge will certainly put the remaining contestants on the edge, as they try to impress the fussy panel of judges. Joining Zac Posen, Nina Garcia, and Heidi Klum to make sure this week's challenge will not go down the dumps are actress Paula Patton and fashion editor Anne Fulenwider.
Last episode saw most of designers struggle to create a lingerie piece for Klum's intimate collection. All of them had no experience creating underwear, let alone something worthy to be produced and sold on the model's website. As they also had to create a cover up to go with the sexy contraption, it was an understatement to say that their hands were full finishing everything before the deadline.
The judges were blown away by Swapnil Shinde's wedding-inspired bondage look, calling it a "showstopper." Merline Labissiere's architectural bra was pronounced as "sexy and empowered," while Ashley Nell Tipton's clever use of gray and purple was highly appreciated, as judges tagged it sporty but feminine.
Meanwhile, Jake Wall's lingerie fell flat and his cover up just a strip of sad fabric. Klum and Garcia liked the bra part of Laurie Underwood's creation, but not the panties. As for Blake, his just did not make the cut and he was eliminated.
"Project Runway" season 14 airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. on Lifetime.
