After the last season's ups and downs, "Poldark" season 4 poses new conflicts and adventures for the main characters, Ross (Aidan Turner), Demelza (Eleanor Tomlinson), and Ross' former lover Elizabeth (Heida Reed). Leaked photos from the set hinted another interesting problem Reed's character will face.
Ross and Elizabeth briefly gave in to their mutual desire last season, which naturally created severe issues between the captain and his wife, Demelza. The former couple had the classic impulsive weakness, and apparently, this led to fragility, regret, and remorse over his marriage. In revenge to his infidelity, Demelza had a steamy moment with Hugh Armitage (Josh Whitehouse).
In the upcoming fourth season, the characters have to deal with new challenges regarding their relationships, politics, and adventures. Speaking to Radio Times, scriptwriter Debbi Horsfield hinted that Ross and Demelza would strive to "work through this sticky path" following their marital problems. She said, "What we explore in the fourth series, essentially, is her reasons for this little excursion, shall we say, are many and complex."
Horsfield further explained, "I have often thought in a way it was the perfect storm of Hugh being an opportunist, playing on her sympathies, Ross being occupied elsewhere, Demelza sort of in a way enjoying being wooed and courted in a way which she hadn't been in the early stages by Ross because she obviously went from being his servant to his wife."
While it is true that the couple will face yet another challenge in their marriage, the recently-leaked images may suggest that it could be linked to Ross' former lover, Elizabeth. International Business Times reported that a certain photo showed Reed's character sporting a baby bump. The outlet pointed out that another Warleggan child is on the way, then asked if the baby belongs to Ross.
The baby bump sparked speculation among fans, with many wondering what lies ahead for Elizabeth. In season 3, the character gave birth to a son, but the identity of the child's father remains unknown. Some believed that it could be Ross and not her husband George. Things will be unveiled when "Poldark" season 4 returns to the screens in 2018.
