Although it has been reported that the new season of "Person of Interest" will not return until midseason next year, fans can't help but wonder what will happen in the course of season 5.

According to rumors and speculations, the upcoming episodes will see the return of Shaw, and the new season will dig deeper into the connection between Shaw and Root.

In the season 4 finale, fans saw the raging battle for dominance between the Machine and the Samaritan, and casualties from both sides apparently included Sameen Shaw. However, toward the end, it was revealed that Shaw was still alive and in the Samaritan faction's care.

In an interview with industry insider Entertainment Weekly, Sarah Shahi who plays Shaw in the series, was quoted as saying that she will definitely be back for the fifth season. In addition, Shahi also teased fans with more Shaw and Root moments in the upcoming episodes.

Shahi said, "There's some really nice Root/Shaw stuff coming up. I think some things that the fans have been waiting for, I think some exploration that the fans deserve to see at this point, so that was a pretty big thing that we recently filmed."

Amy Acker, who plays Root, added: "For Team Machine, we've all been searching for Shaw, so we have this real dynamic between, do we put our energy into finding Shaw, or saving the Machine."

It was surmised that one of the revolving plots for the fifth season would be Harold (Michael Emerson) and John's (Jim Caviezel) attempts to fix the Machine. The opening premiere itself will continue where the fourth season finale left off, seeing the Machine escape from Samaritan agents.

"Person of Interest" season 5 doesn't have any specific release date yet, but it was reported to be opening by midseason of 2016.
