Every Friday night in Allentown, Pennsylvania, a group of volunteers led by a pastor provides meals to the homeless.

Pastor Tony Adamo of the Kingdom Life Family Center based in Orefield makes dinner every week on a street corner in downtown Allentown together with volunteers including Allentown Mayor Ed Pawlowski.

Kenny, one of those who fell in line to get the hot meal, told 69 News that he's grateful.

"You can have as many hamburgers and hot dogs as you want. It's a great thing. It's a beautiful thing, you know?" he said.

Adamo, who's been a pastor for 27 years, said, "We just started coming downtown, just because there's a need down here."

Gary, who sleeps at a laundromat, is also thankful for the free meal.

"I'm thankful for what they're doing. If it wasn't for them right here, I'd probably be panhandling; quarter here, quarter there, might get a sandwich and that's it," he said.

Pastor Tony said people who get in line for food are those who haven't eaten any for the entire day.

"Sometimes people will take, like, five. They're good... but sometimes people haven't really eaten much all day," he said.

In addition to the meal, they are given clothes and food to eat later.

"It's more than just a hot dog. It's love, it's a blessing, it's His spirit shining on a lot of people," Gary said.

Kenny said this is the first time that he has experienced such act of kindness.

"I've lived in four cities in three years, and I've never seen what I'm seeing right now. It's a beautiful thing. And the Mayor is showing what a great person he really is. A true man," he said.

Pastor Adamo said he feels good serving the homeless.

"I'm really at a point where, you know, it's been cold, it's been rainy and I really don't want to miss it. It's just really awesome being kind to people who need some kindness. It just really does me good," he said.
