After the death of Paul Walker and the hurdle that came along with it, finally, "Furious 7" is set to go next year. However, many are asking if this will be the final movie in the "The Fast and the Furious" franchise. Many are torn between continuing the franchise or putting an end to it. It pretty much boils down to what story there is left telling at this point.
Paul Walker's passing has certainly driven a hammer into the continuity of the franchise. With Paul around, the franchise could go on forever as long as people love watching it. But now that he's gone, the writers have to find a way to still keep the story interesting without one of the lead characters, Brian O'Conner, in the movie.
Deadline wrote a piece about Justin Lin returning to the "Fast and Furious" franchise to direct its final film. This is still speculation at this point, but it does make sense to bring the director back to end the series, wouldn't it? He directed installments three to six of the series, then handed the director's chair to James Wan for "Furious 7." But then, with millions and millions of fans anticipating every sequel, there might just be reason to continue the story and the movies.
Back then, there were talks of the "FF7" as starting a whole new trilogy of movies of Dom and Brian. When Paul passed away, this topic was scratched right off the bat. In fact, the movie makers had a hard time putting in Paul in the scenes and had to seek the help of his brothers Cody and Caleb Walker to stand-in for Paul. They also had to use CGI to put his face on the scenes. It sounds like hard work just to be able to push through with the movie.
Nonetheless, if they do decide to continue with the franchise, Paul's character should be wittingly written off the movie already. In addition, there were rumors of Cody Walker joining the gang for "FF8." If they could write a good story about why Cody would be a good addition to the crew, then why not?
"Furious 7" hits theaters on April 3, 2015.
