Panto stars get behind fundraising for world's poor

Priscilla Goose (Joseph Martin) and Mother Goose (Barrie Hunter) launch SCIAF Christmas Real Gifts in Perth

Panto stars have got together with Catholic development agency SCIAF to help people affected by poverty.

Barrie Hunter and Joseph Mann, from the cast of Mother Goose at Perth Theatre, are lending their support to the charity's ethical Real Gifts this Christmas.

The gift range includes chickens and water for villages. Money raised from every gift bought by the public goes directly towards a project supporting a family in Africa, Asia or Latin America.

Shoppers also receive a special gift card and fridge magnet to pass on to their loved ones.

Hunter, who plays Mother Goose said: "Christmas is a wonderful time of year for sharing gifts and celebrating with friends and family.

"This year I'm urging everyone to buy SCIAF Real Gifts as you get a special present to pass on to your loved one which provides real and practical support to someone who is struggling to survive in Africa, Asia or Latin America."

Other items in the Real Gift range include seeds and tools for planting an allotment, as well as pigs, goats and a school uniform for a child.

SCIAF's Fundraising and Education Manager Ann Ward said: "We're delighted that Perth Theatre and the stars of Mother Goose, Barrie and Joseph, are supporting our Christmas campaign.

"SCIAF Real Gifts provide a huge amount of help to families living in poverty. Over the last five years they have raised £1.7 million to help people in need, with over £270,000 generated last Christmas alone."
