The past days have been stormy for Floyd Mayweather, apparently drawing some heat after being hit by an article from SB Nation that the undefeated American boxer got banned IVs prior to his match last May 2 against Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao.
The issue, of course, casts a dark cloud on the flamboyant one as he is headed to his alleged final fight against unranked Andre Berto. Mayweather is expected to have an easy time with Berto despite the Haitian claiming he will be pulling off an upset.
When word about the banned IV came out, it would only be a matter of time before Pacquiao would come out and say his piece. According to Pacquiao, he feels vindicated and reiterated that Mayweather should be punished for the said violation.
Pacquiao feels he deserves a rematch seeing that the whole acclaimed IV scandal adds more drama to an already controversial fight which is facing some legal issue already.
Mayweather reiterated that he is clean and it seems that United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) is backing him up on the claim. Although it remains to be seen how that banned drug intake will be handled, the question now is does Pacquiao deserve a rematch?
There are two key things to consider. One is whether or not the boxing world want to see a Mayweather vs. Pacquiao II and second is if Mayweather still be fighting after his match with Berto.
Everyone knows that everyone ended up disappointed last May 2 and even before all this hoopla surrounding the banned IV use came up, the number of people who want the two fighters in the ring again have dwindled.
Many feel that Mayweather still outboxed Pacquiao that night and the Filipino boxer's fall is still, apparently, singled out by the fact that he did fight with a concealed injury.
Then there is the thing about Mayweather fighting defensively. Remember that Mayweather was criticized for running so adding that up with the performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs) use, it may all boil down to what Pacquiao is trying to single out. Is it the power that Mayweather behind his punches, his stamina, or the fact that he was able to dance all night long?
As for the second case, a rematch is improbable if Mayweather does quit. He could draw a lot of criticism but as everyone knows, such doesn't seem to affect Mayweather. Proof of that is that despite the public outcry on his choice of opponent (Berto), Mayweather is still pushing through with it.
The case would be different, of course, if the sports body would order a rematch but the way things are going, that could be the last possible scenario.
