OS X El Capitan release date: what to expect

 Apple website

Apple concluded its annual Worldwide Developers Conference last week where it discussed its projects, and one of the most notable upcoming changes to the company's products and services line-up is the new platform update for both mobile and Mac operating systems. The event's keynote address focused mostly on both the upcoming iOS 9 and the Mac's newest operating system, OS X El Capitan.

In terms of desktop computing, Apple's upcoming OS X El Capitan is termed to be a combination of both the previous Yosemite and other Apple operating systems, particularly Snow Leopard. However, there are new features in the upcoming platform that Apple said will be unique to the version.

For starters, El Capitan will introduce a new viewing mode called Split View, which will also be present in the iOS 9. With Split View, users can use two apps at the same time, opening the windows side by side without alternating back and forth and dragging windows into place.

In addition, the new Apple OS version will incorporate the Metal API feature of the iOS platform. This option will make the OS X maximize the graphics performance of Mac devices, bringing as much as 10 times the rendering performance of Apple desktops. Upping the graphics power would be a plus for those who use Macs for visual and graphics work.

The El Capitan on Mac will also introduce more than 50,000 new type characters to expand its library language support and include other languages such as Traditional and Simplified Chinese, and Japanese Hiragana.

The developer preview of the new platform is already available and can be availed by Mac Developer Program members. According to Apple's announcement, the new OS X will be released on the Mac App Store this fall.
