'The Originals' season 3 plot highlights Elijah and his progeny

Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Elijah (Daniel Gillies) The CW

In "The Originals" season 3, Elijah's anger toward Klaus still has not subsided. Understandably so as his anger is about how his brother's recklessness led to the death of one of the most important ladies that matter to him. Also, because of Klaus, another lady close to him was cursed, changing her life forever.

However, this anger won't be Elijah's only concern.

The upcoming season will see Elijah confronting his very own progeny, too, just like what happened with Klaus. Although Elijah may not easily give his trust after everything that happened, the upcoming season will highlight how he will give this trust to his progeny. Whether it is for the better or worse remains to be seen.

"Each of [The Trinity] come knocking on our heroes' doors saying, 'There's a sire line war in progress amongst all of us and if anyone decides to take you out, I go along with you, so it's in my best interest to protect you and to try to prevent anybody else from bringing our line any harm,'" executive producer Julie Plec told Entertainment Weekly.

Needless to say, Elijah and the rest of the Mikaelsons know better, and the progenies who will seek them will find that it will not be that easy. However, with a number of progenies knocking on the Mikaelsons' door, Elijah and the rest will also find it difficult to separate friends from foes.

Plec said during the same interview, "Of course, it's really impossible to tell who's being truthful and who's not."

In other related news, Claire Holt, who initially played Rebekah, is set to return to "The Originals" season 3. Fans will remember that her character was shown first in season 1 but when Rebekah returned for another season, Maise Richardson-Sellers portrayed the role, with the storyline explaining that it was a spell gone awry.

However, executive producer Michael Narducci promised to E! Online that Holt will return in "The Originals" season 3 in "a whole flashback story." He added that "we have some ideas on how we might see Rebekah again in present day in both bodies. Not at the same time!"

"The Originals" season 3 premieres Oct. 8.
