Chinese tech firm OnePlus has made its presence felt with the release of OnePlus One, a device that tackled smartphones from bigger companies head on with its high-caliber features and a small price tag. Now, OnePlus is moving forward for another smartphone feat, and with a device called OnePlus Two, the tech company hopes to be a larger threat to those enjoying the limelight in the showground.
The new handset will come in an unchanged 5.5-inch display, but instead of keeping Full HD (1080 x 1920 pixels), OnePlus has opted to go for Quad HD (1440 x 2560 pixels). However, the improved resolution is not a decision the company easily agreed upon, Tech Times reported. Carl Pei, OnePlus co-founder and director of global, assured nevertheless that "the final product will surprise people."
Tech Times claimed that OnePlus Two would come in a thinner build with a display made edge-to-edge and bezels made chicly thin. Add to that the up-to-the-minute 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, which will give the device more power. However, Know Your Mobile mentioned leaks from OnePlus retailer Collicool, saying that the processor choice is only a Snapdragon 805. Along with this claim is the inclusion of 32 GB storage capacity and a 3100 mAh battery. Conversely, multiple media outlets report that a 3300 mAh unit will be popped in instead.
Speculations indicate that the OnePlus Two, which is codenamed Lettuce (an interesting follow up to OnePlus One which was called Bacon), will pack a 16-megapixel rear-facing shooter and a 5-megapixel front-facing snapper. The handset will then run the OnePlus-modified Android 5.0 Lollipop build.
According to Know Your Mobile, with @eveleaks as source, OnePlus is already headed out for a new device but Pei broached on the fact that "there's a lot more expectations" and "a lot more pressure" on them this time to make a superior device. At any rate, OnePlus Two is reportedly set to put in an appearance by the second or third quarter of the year as what Pei recently announced.
The company will initially sell the device via invite system again, but only "for a short period of time" to avoid exceeding inventory and big overheads.
"When you have a slim margin, you can't afford to have a lot of inventory," Pei explained. "Compared to other companies, we're still really weak, and small. Our financial strength isn't as strong as other companies. We still have to be a bit conservative in the beginning."
OnePlus Two will be sold with a $435 price tag.
