OnePlus 2 release date, specs and features: images leak ahead of launch

Days before the expected launch of OnePlus' next flagship, leaked images have surfaced showcasing the OnePlus 2's design and chassis.

China-based OnePlus had scheduled the release of the OnePlus 2 on Monday, and although the company has already pulled out all the stops, complete with countdown posts and everything, fans still can't wait for the full details and a full image. Inadvertently, the post by TENAA, the organization that regulates Chinese telecoms and certifies smartphones in the country, more than likely confirmed the design of the upcoming smartphone ahead of its launch.

According to observers, if the images on TENAA's website are indeed the final design for the OnePlus 2 and not an earlier prototype, the upcoming device has a host of changes from its predecessor. It seems that aside from the new fingerprint sensor and much-powerful camera assembly, it will be slightly smaller than the previous OnePlus flagship.

OnePlus had a runaway bestseller in its first smartphone, the OnePlus One. When it was launched last year, the company's unique marketing strategies and the One's high-specs yet competitive price made the device one of the most talked about handsets of 2014. Although the company itself does not have the brand recall of larger competitors like Samsung and Apple, the OnePlus One gathered a huge following with tech-savvy users.

The company's growing fanbase got excited with the announcement that they will be releasing the second iteration of its flagship smartphone this year. The second bit of good news came when it was also confirmed that instead of the expected latter part of the year launch, the device will be coming much earlier, with confirmed reports saying that OnePlus 2 will come out on July 27 via virtual reality event.
