Emma (Jennifer Morrison) is dead set on getting the Excalibur and snuffing out the light in the upcoming episode of the ABC series "Once Upon a Time."

In "The Broken Kingdom," Cartermatt reports that the new Dark One will try to control Rumpelstiltskin, who turned out to be alive. Last week, Belle (Emilie de Ravin) discovered that the rose petals were back on the stem, symbolizing that Rumpel was awake. When she returned to the pawnshop, however, the villain was gone.

It turned out Emma has him and she has been trying to wake him up through a spell. To succeed, she needed an item he touched before he turned into the Dark One. Her trip to see Hook (Colin O'Donoghue) was then revealed to be a set up to get his sword. She then used it to complete the incantation, and the last viewers saw was Rumpel waking up from his deep sleep.

Emma apparently wants to take over the Dark One to do her bidding. At the moment, Rumpel is a blank slate, neither light nor dark. This means that she can make him into the "purest hero who has ever lived." Once he takes on that title, Emma can use him to remove the Excalibur from the stone.

Meanwhile, the promo released by ABC shows King Arthur (Liam Garrigan) and his true colors. He is seen arguing with Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin) after the latter learns of his intentions. Arthur wants the sword to preserve and protect his kingdom at all costs, and he is not averse to doing the dirty work to succeed in his mission.

Last episode, it was he who stole the toadstool from David (Josh Dallas) and told him it was lost in the water. The item was the one they needed to communicate with Merlin (Elliot Knight) and free him from the tree. Arthur was also the one who sent the squire to stage the robbery of the magical items. As the former knew too much about his plan, Arthur forced him to drink poison and die in service of Camelot. Will Arthur's greed fully consume him or will the Storybrooke characters have the chance to save him?

"Once Upon a Time" airs Sundays at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
