Nintendo NX release date update: Patent document shows new controller?

Nintendo won't talk about the Nintendo NX until next year. With this, it is up to the rumor mill to churn out more helpful information that will broaden gamers' knowledge of the machine, apart from the only known fact that the device is going to be the newest console from the video game company.

Recently, a patent document for a controller surfaced, allegedly filed by Nintendo back in February. The paraphernalia resembles the Wii U controller, but this one has only two face buttons instead of four, and a couple of scroll shoulder toggles sandwiching the display.

The patent file explains its "operation apparatus," which can be used in both portrait and landscape modes. When operated as the former, the gamer's index fingers will be used to control it. For the latter, a thumb should be enough.

The design gives the impression that the controller for the Nintendo NX, if it is really the one spotted, is merely an overhauled version of that for the Wii U released by the company three years ago. It wasn't met with massive enthusiasm and Tech Times writes that it did not perform well in the market. But as per Forbes, the spotted patent could merely be a redesigned version of the Wii U controller and not the actual one for the Nintendo NX.

Another speculation about the Nintendo NX is that it will be shipped with the same hardware as the Xbox One and the PS4, which are an AMD mobile CPU and GPU. It is also being said the RAM will be up to 8 GB.

The Nintendo NX is reportedly going to be released next year, with production set to commence next month. Tech Times surmises that it might be made available in 2017 instead, as this will mark five years since the Wii U hit the market.
