In the past weeks, the forthcoming Nexus phones enjoyed all the rage, with leaks and rumors surfacing here and there. It was just recently that the tech world was graced by the presence of a Nexus tablet, which apparently stopped by a Geekbench 3 benchmark test.

It is presumed that the unfamiliar device that popped up out of nowhere is the Nexus 8 tablet. It is expected to be launched by Google alongside the long-rumored and often-talked about Nexus 5 2015 from LG and the Nexus 6  from Huawei.

Right now, the software giant has the 7-inch Nexus 7 by Asus, the 9-inch Nexus 9 by HTC and the 10-inch Nexus 10 by Samsung making up their tablet lineup. It is expected that the Nexus 8 will get an 8-inch display, which is reportedly where it got its moniker.

Geekbench 3 also churned out information pointing to an octa-core 1.3 GHz CPU dwelling under the device's hood. This detail hints that a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset won't drive the tablet. Instead, users can expect the Nexus 8 tablet to house a MediaTek processor.

The Nexus 8 is expected to have Android 6.0 Marshmallow on board. But since it the software is still currently in development, the device in the said benchmark test ran on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. When the newly-unveiled mobile operating system is ready, it is expected to the one to power up the forthcoming tablet. For now, it seems Google is using Lollipop as Nexus 8's temporary OS.

No tech firm is attached to the manufacturing of the device though. With LG and Huawei enlisted by Google for the Nexus 5 and 6, it is expected the company will have one of them work on Nexus 8.

At this moment, there is no available information that hints at the release date of the Nexus 8.
