Nexus 7 (2016) release date, specs: Huawei's 7-inch tablet launching this year?

Google is rumored to be preparing to launch several new devices this year and one of them is an updated version of its highly successful 7-inch Nexus tablet. It is further believed that the search engine giant has partnered up with Huawei to create the alleged device.

The Nexus 7 is speculated to make a comeback this year and could be unveiled during a media event organized by Google that will happen on Oct. 4, although the company is yet to send out invites. Based on several rumors, the device is said to be containing either an NVIDIA Tegra X2 chip or a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 one, a 4GB RAM, 128 B of internal storage, and up to 2TB of expandable storage. It is also expected to be running Android 7.0 Nougat and have a price tag of around US$300.

The rumors were further strengthened when Evan Blass, the famous leakster, posted on Twitter, "Google's Huawei-built 7-inch tablet, with 4GB RAM, on track for release before the end of the year."

Other devices expected to be unveiled at the rumored event are two phones, known in the rumor mill as Marlin (5.5-inch display) and Sailfish (5-inch display), Daydream VR, Google Home and an updated Chromecast that will be cable of providing a 4K resolution. It is also rumored that the Mountain View-based tech giant is rebranding its Nexus product line, changing it to the Pixel product line, PC Advisor reported.

The publication also got in touch with Huawei's PR department with regards to its rumored partnership with Google for the Nexus 7 (2016). The Chinese tech-manufacturing giant's representative simply said, "We don't comment on future products, as a matter of policy. Huawei is committed to creating the world's most compelling and innovative devices, offering an exceptional performance and outstanding user experience. "

The rep also stated, "We are proud to have worked with Google, which is strong in innovation, on the Nexus 6P and will continue to collaborate in the future, such as our support for Daydream, the recently-announced platform for high performance mobile VR."
