With the coming of the Google Nexus 6, the Nexus 5 has been officially killed off. After months of speculations on the plight of the device that initially came out in 2013, Google had made the official announcement through the Google Play Store.

Word about the impending demise of the Nexus 5 came out with the release of the Nexus 6. And while there was no official word yet back then (at least for the first quarter), its impending release has put an end to the reign of the Nexus 5.

All is not lost however for folks who still want to get hold of a Nexus 5. The device can still be purchased from online sites such as eBay, Amazon and Snapdeal among others.

But customers who intend to get one may want to do it immediately since with the discontinuation, the device's availability would depend on the stocks available from the said sites.

For those who are unaware, the Nexus 5 sports a 4.95-inch display (1080x1920 pixel resolution) and comes powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor. It is packed with the Android 4.4 Kitkat although it can be upgraded to Android 5.0 Lollopop.

With regards to its other features, it is available in 16 and 32GB variants, 2GB of RAM and a non-removable Li-Po 2, 300 mAh battery. It comes with an 8MP back camera and a 1.4 MP shooter up front.

The initial price offering for the Nexus 5 was $350 for the 16GB variant and $400 for the 32GB model. However with its scarcity on the horizon, expect the prices for the limited stocks of the Nexus 5 to balloon.

If that would be the case, wouldn't it be wise to target the Nexus 6 instead?

In case you haven't heard, Verizon Wireless is offering the Nexus 6 for about $249.99 with a 2-year contract.
