Nexus 5 2015 release date: New Google phones to be called the 5X and 6P

It has long been rumored that Google is planning to release a new iteration of its Nexus 5 lineup. What's more, numerous leaks and speculations placed Google partnering with two manufacturers, tech giant LG and considered-as-newcomer Huawei, for their own respective takes on a new Nexus smartphone.

The rumor mill has churned out another report, this time on what the two new Nexus devices will be called when they are released. Apparently, instead of coming out with a version number under the Google lineup, they will follow their manufacturer's naming convenience.

According to industry observer Droid Life, a reliable source said that previous rumors surrounding the new LG variant being called the Nexus 5X are most likely true. Meanwhile, the source also said that the Huawei variant will be released not as a new-gen Nexus 5 but rather as the Nexus 6P.

Droid Life however, cautioned that although the information came from a reliable source, the details are still unfounded, and much can change between now and the new phones' launch.

It is rumored that Google will be unveiling the two new phones at its announced event to be held on Sept. 29.

Aside from the new names being circulated online, there is no reliable information on other details regarding the new phones, particularly their specs. However, it has been already bandied that the LG variant will come with mid-ranged specs such as a Snapdragon 808 chipset, 2 GB of RAM, and a 5.2-inch screen. The Huawei Nexus 6P, on the other hand, will be a premium phablet with Snapdragon 810 processor and at least 3 GB of RAM. As new iterations of the Nexus lineup, both handsets will also reportedly come with Android 6.0 Marshmallow right out of the box.
