Those who want to spend the first days of 2015 roving around in malls and shops, foraging for discounts and kicking up their heels will only have a limited number of spots and hours to choose from. Not all establishments will hold up the open sign as the holiday renders Thursday a non-working day, but here are some that will.

Best Buy will fling its doors open at 9 a.m. on Thursday. However, most of its outlets will put up the shutters earlier than the usual closing time. On New Year's Eve, the retailer will be off by 7 p.m. Walmart and CVS as well as Walgreens and Big Lots will welcome shoppers in the same hours of operation. Walmart's hours in different locations may vary though. Also, Kmart will stick with its regular hours, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

On New Year's Eve, Target will close up at 9 p.m. It will resume its operation at 8 a.m. on New Year's Day. Customers who would like to take a trip to Toys "R" Us on New Year's Day can go there as early as 9 a.m. The store will also close early today. Sam's Club buyers will have to wait for Friday to shop as its stores will remain closed during the holiday. BJ's will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Costco, on the other hand, will allow its employees to go on with the New Year parties and shut its outlets from 6 p.m. today until Jan. 2. Macy's and Publix will be open on New Year's Eve until 7 p.m., and Rite Aid until 6 p.m. Hobby Lobby will close at 5:30 p.m. on this day and the next. JC Penny, Sears, Lowe's and Home Depot will take care of shoppers' needs on New Year's Day.

People who would like to chill and eat out have some restaurants ready to dish up some good meals. These include Applebee's, Baskin-Robbins, Boston Market, Burger King, Country Buffet, Dave & Buster's, Denny's, Dunkin' Donuts, IHOP, Hardee's, HomeTown Buffet, Jack in the Box, McDonald's, Old Country Buffet, Panda Express, Pizza Hut, Ruby Tuesday, Ryan's, Sonic Drive-In, Starbucks Coffee, Subway, Taco Bell, TGI Fridays and Waffle House.
